Countertenor Cenk Karaferya graduated with a Masters in Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama; he is currently continuing his Advanced Diploma studies with Andrew Watts and Yvonne Kenny. Cenk is a proud recipient of the Borusan Music Scholarship. He is also supported by Talent Unlimited.
His recent engagements were with the British Youth Opera in the cover title role of Jonathan Dove's The Little Green Swallow, Wigmore Hall appearence with Voiceworks, Opera Settecentro performing in the UK premier of Pergolesi's Adriano in Siria (Aquilio), recital of songs in Madrid's Music Above the Park concert series, Budapest's FUGA concert hall with mezzo-soprano Judit Rajk, Guildhall Opera School in the cover role of Artemis in Henze's Phaedra and the role of Erato in Gluck's Il Parnaso Confuso at Wilton's Music Hall.
In opera Cenk has performed with the Izmir State Opera & Ballet in an Donizetti Classical Music Awards winning production of Agrippina (Narciso), Teatru Manoel in La Clemenza di Tito (Annio), Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra in Saul (David), Opera de Bauge in Dido and Aeneas (Spirit & 1st Witch) also Rodelinda (Bartarido), Conscience in Toby Young’s Diary of a Thief with Olivier Award winner OperaUpClose, and London Contemporary Opera in Philip Venables' The Schmuerz.
Cenk has sung in solo concerts with Divino Sospiro, I Virtuosi Delle Muse, Barockorchester La Banda, Les Bougies Baroques, Izmir State Symphony Orchestra and Broschi Ensemble performing at prestigious venues such as the Southbank Centre, Centro Cultural de Belém Lisbon, 2nd Valletta International Baroque Festival, London Handel Festival, Greenwich Festival of Early Music, Jacqueline du Pré Music Building, Zorlu Performing Arts Centre, Izmir Opera House, Istanbul Barok Festival, St John’s Smith Square, St James’s Piccadilly, The Holbourne and Albert Long Hall Istanbul.
Equally at home in recital, Cenk has been one of the core artists that Handel House, has nurtured since its existence. He has given countless solo recitals and has received considerable acclaim for his broadcasts on CNN, BBC Radio 3 'In Tune', RTP 2 and TRT. He has recorded Handel’s Messiah for documentaries shown on BBC Two and TRT Muzik.
Cenk's future engagements are with the Ankara State Opera in Bujorn Hoinic's epic opera Troy (Kalkhas). Cenk has had masterclasses with David Daniels, Brian Asawa, Christoph Prégardien, Amanda Roocroft, Benjamin Luxon and Emma Kirkby.
